在１９６１年，人民从歪曲历史真实的《海瑞罢官》中到底能“学习”到一些什么东西呢？
我们认为：《海瑞罢官》并不是芬芳的香花，而是一株毒草。它虽然是头几年发表和演出的，但是，歌颂的文章连篇累牍，类似的作品和文章大量流传，影响很大，流毒很大，不加以澄清，对人民的事业是十分有害的，需要加以讨论。在这种讨论中，只要用阶级分析观点认真地思考，一定可以得到现实的和历史的阶级斗争的深刻教训。
姚文元个人简介（中国秦腔网）
姚文元（１９３２～２００５），浙江诸暨人。１９４８年加入中国共产党， １９４９年后曾在中国作协、上海卢湾区委宣传部工作。因《评新编历史剧〈海瑞罢官〉》发迹后，历任“中央文革小组”成员、中共上海市委第二书记、中共九、十届政治局委员。“文革”中积极参加夺权活动，１９７６年被捕，１９８１年被判有期徒刑２０年，剥夺政治权利５年，２００５年１２月２３日病亡。
